I got to know Joelle and Ben during a sunset engagement adventure a few months earlier – an evening of chasing light, laughing and wandering. Ben’s easy laugh and Joelle’s steady warmth made them feel effortless together; they complement each other perfectly and were genuinely excited to marry and build a life. That energy had me buzzing to return for the wedding.
They chose to see each other before the ceremony, and I’m so glad they did. Those pre-ceremony photos were relaxed and joyful – a perfect, unpressured moment to laugh, breathe, and really be together before everyone arrived, especially with the weather looking iffy.
The ceremony was held on their patch of land at Pleasant Point they already call home. Midway through, the rain made its presence known, but it didn’t derail anything – people folded inward, voices softened, Joelle took it in her stride, and everyone pitched in to help. The downpour somehow made the vows feel even more immediate and intimate.
We moved into the marquee to shelter and dry out; champagne flowed and conversation picked up as if nothing had skipped a beat. When the shower passed we stepped back outside for family photos — Archie was an absolute star, grinning, full of antics and playing with the dogs, stealing every frame.
As evening settled the marquee hummed. Espresso martinis appeared, speeches landed with warm honesty, and then the music shifted things to the next level – a saxophone turned up, the dance floor opened, and the place properly went off. It was loud, joyful, and exactly right for this lovely, loved-up couple.
